Roberta Bitzer, Environmental Scientist, is a Brazilian Bodyboarder from Rio de Janeiro who has just recently turned Pro in the USA. She’s been known and admired for doing well in both – School and Bodyboarding for years prior in Brazil. Roberta started competing the Macaé Local Tour in 2001, where she won the Tour in her first season. In 2002 she started the Rio State Tour and caught media attention after she won the 8th competition of the Tour in Copacabana Beach, which is one of the most competitive events . In 2003 Mrs. Bitzer started running the Brazilian Tour, advancing to the finals in her first national competition and being cited the best girl from Rio in the Brazilian Tour 2003. During the current year she ranked number 5 in Brazil, plus she competed in ten Rio de Janeiro Tour contests and appeared in eight finals, giving her the number two ranking in Rio de Janeiro.

Macaé Champion in 2004, Roberta earned a fourth place finish in the First Brazilian Tour Contest and won events in Espirito Santo State. Roberta had made the decision to stop competing in the Brazilian Contests on September, 2004 to go to USA to attend Fairfield University, Connecticut during the fall. Roberta couldn’t stand being away from the ocean for too long, so she traveled to North Carolina in September to compete in the Women’s Open of the Atlantic Bodyboarding Association Pro/Am tour and won first place, after that she went back to North Carolina in October to keep her skills sharp and surfed in a men's Pro competition and placed seventh.

In 2006 Roberta moved to New Jersey, USA, where she started competing in the US National Tour, organized by the United States Bodyboarding Association (USBA). She won three contests out of five and was crowned the US National Champion of 2006!

In 2007, Mrs. Bitzer moved to Hawaii, where she works for an environmental company and trains to improve her skills in big waves and for the USBA Tour. Also, In 2007 Mrs. Bitzer maintained her consistency in her competitions and after winning the USBA Sandy Beach Pro, Hawaii and doing two other finals (Jenks Pro and IB Pro), she was once again crowned US National Champion!

2008 is her third Hawaiian Winter Season, and she is working hard to be an attraction on the North Shore waves! Also, she is working on getting sponsors to be able to move forward and start competing in the International Bodyboarding Tour (IBA Tour)!
